Jean-Louis Dubut de Laforest publishes Morphine in 1891. Being a successful writer of feuilletons, some of which made scandals, he devoted this one to the derivative of opium, discovered at the beginning of the 19th century and named after Morpheus, the son of Hypnos (the god of sleep).
